Havok was acquired by Intel

Havok logoTechCrunch inform theirs readers that Intel acquire Havok: one of the most significant physical engine middleware publisher. Havok was founded in 1998 in Dublin, Ireland and theirs engine was used in most of modern games and it is available for PC, PS2, PS3, Wii, Xbox 360 and much more platforms.

Why Intel – hardware publisher – needs middleware vendor for game industry? Havok is processed directly by CPU and Intel might optimize this engine more for the Intel processors. This should express on benchmarks.

Or there is one rumor: What if the Intel wants create their own PPU (physics processing unit). They could use their strong position and, unless Ageia with their PhysX, succeed.
