These days the most important part of games are graphics. And of course physics. But how can I play great looking game, which’s control absolutelly sucks?
I spoke about it in my post about Resident Evil 4, but now I want to think about it from a little different angle. As I wrote already, right now I’m playing SimCity Societies. And so I bethink of The Sims 2. I was searching a while and finally after few minutes installed it on my laptop.
And even if it’s still so much fun I have one little notice for developers - why don’t you use same control scheme in games from one “family“? Okay - when you wanna implement absolutelly new control scheme, it’s almost impossible to keep at least controls the same. But SimCity and The Sims 2 use the same scheme - one mouse button to build and choose things, one to change the angle of camera and one for slide along the map. So why the hell is SimCity using right mouse button for changing camera angle and The Sims 2 the middle button? I know, it’s a detail, but it’s really confusing, don’t you think?

And here it is - today is one of the oldest and most repeated games celebrating it’s 35th birthday. It was on November 29 1972 when Pong came on the light of world. In 1972 it was released in North America and one year after in Japan. If you want to know more about pong, just look at Wikipedia. And if you want to see quite good remake of Pong in flash, try this - unfortenatelly it’s only for one player. But if you’ll google - you’ll absolutelly find something for two players too:o)

First of all I must say, that I really love Unreal. When I purchased my first PC (it was Celeron 433MHz), one of my first games was Unreal. Few years after was Unreal Tournament my first game, I played online. And the game, I played on the internet most is….tadaaa - Unreal Tournament 2004.
So I was really looking forward for new Unreal Tournament 3. Few weeks ago I downloaded beta demo, but it was falling all time, so I didn’t even write about it. Now I have finally full version of game and after some technical problems (it was STILL falling on my notebook, I know, it’s not actually game for notebooks, but it’s still my most powerful computer) I was finally able to shoot some enemies.
And the feeling was great - again. Even if it doesn’t look as good, as it could on better mashine, I’m really enjoying it because the core is still the same. I think it’s even better, then in older UT games. Bio rifle is finally usable, and I must say, that I really love it here, hoverboard is absolutelly amazing and CTF with vehicles got absolutelly new dimension.
The game is really dynamic and there is always something going on. Maps are designed very well and after few games you’ll remember where to find what weapon and where to heal yourself. When I first saw new Deck 17 (remember it from first Unreal?) I didn’t recognise it, because it looked so good, but I was still wondering, where I know this level from. Same thing with music - I even sometimes listen music form Unreal in my iPod and here you can find many same melodies, just sounding even better.
I think, that Unreal Tournament 3 is perfect choice for every Unreal fan with a little better computer (you don’t need as good computer, as for many other new games including Bioshock) and even if you didn’t play UT or UT2004 - try UT3 and you’ll see, you’ll be amazed as I am:o)

Ufff, it took me some time (but of course not all the time I wasn’t writing;o)), but I finally finished Doom 3. I know, it’s three years old game, but why don’t play older games, when new games sucks. Everybody is freaking out with Orange box, but I never was big Half life fan. I finished original Half life and in it’s time it was really revolution. But when came HL2, it bored me after few hours. Everything I remember now is that it had great face animations. But I can imagine, I will return once too - just like I did with Doom.
Best FPS I ever played is F.E.A.R. I think. Maybe because I like simple action when I’m playing this kind of games. I’m going to try Perseus Mandate (new stand alone datadics) as soon as I can and I’m sure I’ll write about it too. In Doom I was sometimes really thinking about exit the game and never start it again (just like if I played it first time), but when I’m finished now, I must say that the game was great. It’s good to look behind and play games, you almost forgot about even if they are just three years old:o)
Now it’s time for something peaceful - I’m just starting new SimCity Societies and my first feelings are really amazing. But about it maybe next time:o)

Because I have only two PC’s at home and no consoles, there are many games, which I can only envy of console players. And of course one of those games is Resident evil series. Fortunatelly Resident evil is one of the better examples, because even if long time after console release, even PC gamers can play this game on their machines. But as you can see on new Resident evil 4, everything is not as good as it look like.
I’m playing fourth Resident evil for few days now and I must really ask, why are developers so dumb. Why can’t they make honest PC conversion? Even if there is still great game in the core, it’s difficult to play it on PC because of one of dumbest controls I’ve ever seen. If you don’t use unofficial plug-in you can’t even use a mouse!
But even if you get used to it, it’s not everything yet. Game contains many action minigames, where you must push the right buttons in the right time. Actually I love these minigames and I think, that it’s good way to show player another part of story in animation but not let him just sit and watch. The problem is that Resident evil 4 doesn’t show you what button on your keyboard to push - it shows number of button on Gamecube/PS2 gamepad and you have no choice but to guess what button is the right one (actually you must push two buttons most time).
So, please, please, if you make a conversion, make it properly and you’ll see, that players will love you for this;o)

Do you like the steampunk like in Arcanum or in tens of other games? Make your own steampunk computer.
At Steampunk workshop you can find a few mods for your computer equipment. This site provides detailed manuals how to move your keyboard, LCD and other stuff to this style.
I appreciate detailed tutorials that provide step by step manual for those who don’t work with brass or other material yet. They include some videos that may help too.
And if you don’t want to do it, just look around to the pictures, it is beautiful.
