Simon: the rhythm and memory game

Simon game
Sometimes you do not need complex game to have some fun, today I want to write post about one very old game invented back in 1978. This game is very, very simply and this means that is still funny to these days.

You have only four buttons and each level begin with sequence of tones (and flashlight) which you must repeat and each round add one more tone. Well it is really simply. If you want to learn more, I recommend to read article on Wikipedia.

If you wanna try it, you can found a lot of clones playable via web browser, I recommend you this one, but Silverlight is required to play. BTW. my high score is 16, how about you?

Puzzle Boy: retro style puzzle game

Puzzle Boy
Hey, prepare yourself to another post from puzzle lover. I discovery another great puzzle game with nice retro graphics, two (puzzle) guys and 30 levels divided to three difficulty courses.

Game consist from one of the most simplest mechanics I ever play: you control some guy and your objective is escape from the room. There are only two type of items: blues items which rotates around and yellow items with sokoban like mechanic: you can push only one item one time. But, please, do not misspell simply mechanics to easy puzzles. In some rooms you have another guy and they must cooperate (press shift to switch them) to leave the room. Two puzzle boys

First, easy, course is great for each players and it is ok for those who do not have enough patience for solving puzzles and it is also fun to play for all other kind of players. I do not spent more than 2 minutes to one room. In another two courses you can forget to this easy levels and you will probably hate me for this tip. Enjoy ;)

Penguins’ journey

Penguins’ journeyTake Tetris, Dinner dash and pinguins, put them into a blender and let it work for a few minutes. You can get many things (don’t think about anything brute;o) and one of them is my last-month favourite casual game - Penguins’ journey.

Just like in many other casual games, your task is to save some kind of animals. And how you can find out from the game’s name, this time it’s penguins. But from what you must save them? You can think that it’s a nonsence, but from water. Even if penguins can swim very well, looks like the ours don’t like swimming at all.

And here you are. Your fellow friends are taken away from home iceberg and it’s up to you to save them and bring them home safely. You can do this by building a bridge between small isles. On the left side of the screen you can find pieces of miscellaneous materials (in first phase it’s something like wood in the end it’s ice), you must put down one near by another faster than your penguins are going. That’s a problem, because dumb penguins are just going and going and almost nothing can stop them. And if there’s a hole, they fall in water.

Fortunatelly you can get some help - if you acomplish a level, you can get a small amount of goldfish and you can buy some tools like a showel to fill small holes (these are the most dangerous one) in your bridge, a hammer to destroy partsof bridge you don’t need, a fan to slow down your penguins or an camera to stop them for a while. You’ve got a recycle bin, too, for destroying useless pieces.

In the water you can find some another animals too. Unfortenatelly, they’re not very friendly and most times they try to throw your penguins to the water or to destroy your bridge. You can rid of them by clicking on them.

A game is quite fast, so you don’t need much time. That’s quite good. And the other perfect thing is that there’s a lot of epinephrinaemia. My roommate tried to play this game too and he was amazed as I am, so I think, that it’s not only me:o) Oh and yes, music is absolutelly addictive and you can find it in the .ogg format in the game directory.

Shift 2: puzzle game for Sunday evening

Shift 2

Sundays are great days to sit down and relax. If you like to relax with Sudoku or other kind of puzzle game I have one recommendation for you. It is small scrolling puzzle-webgame. Sounds terrible? But, trust me, it is great.

This is the escape type of puzzle game: you control some kind of player and your objective is go through the doors. There is some standard mechanics: keys, spine things and so, but the main feature, that makes this game unique is ability to scroll the screen. You just press the shift key, screen scroll to 90° and walls became to free spaces and free space became to the wall. Simply, little bit confusing and sometimes become to headaches, but it is original feature and make this game fresh and challenging.

Pros:

  • casual game play: no rush, no timer
  • relaxed levels: well balanced levels prohibit stuck in levels. You can finish most levels in try&error mode

Cons:

  • some game-design glitches: not very often, but waiting to some scripted thing in second - tutorial level irritated me.
  • some technical glitches: couple of levels are CPU intensive and it lags sometimes occurred on my PC. Well, my PC isn’t so powerful (Athlon XP 1800+ and 768 MB Ram), but it is enough to run Battlefield 2 smoothly and it is not enough for this small flash game.

Metro Siberia - get through the tunnel

Metro SiberiaI haven’t written for quite a long time, so today I’ve got something that can compensate the time without any games for you. Actually, as everytime, this game is pretty easy to play and you can play it in your browser - it’s called Metro Siberia and it can show you, that there’s not always a light on the end of the tunnel:o)

If I tell you, that you’ll have to fly with some kind of a spaceship in here, you’ll think that it’s some kind of action shooter game for sure. Unfortunatelly, it is an action game, but your spaceship has no guns. But trust me, you won’t need them. Your only mission is to get as far in the tunnel as you can.

Sounds easy? But you can control your ship only with one button - a spacebar. If you push it, your engines turn on and you fly higher. But don’t imagine the tunnel as as a straight hole in the ground! There are many unevennesses and be careful to avoid falling stalactites! If you’ll be able to get even further, you can finds some droids flying in your path and of course collision with them has fatal consequences too!

In the left lower edge you can find a number, that tells you, how far you are. I was able to get something about 2500, so I’m prettz curious about you;o) Post us your results and show, that you’re better, than the others!
