Eyemaze is one of my favorite game developer and I very like his games. He is best known for his Grow series (Grow Island and Grow Cube).
He surprise me today, again, with releasing branch new and very nice puzzle game. You have several apples and your objective is to entry through the gate. And there is another objective to solve how apples could walk At the present there are just 5 levels and I am looking forward to see much more levels in the future.
For a long time it is first game which surprise me with novel gameplay and I must recommend this brilliant small game to everyone.
If you don’t like logic games but you just want to take a break for a while, I’ve got a perfect game for you. It’s called Robokill and it’s one of the most complex flash games I’ve ever seen. Even if the system is not complex at all.
You can say, that in the core of this game is a system very similar to popular Geometry wars. Your hero, a human with giant mecha-suit is thrown into a room with many enemy robots and he must clean it in order to get into another room. In the background there are a few missions with it’s own scenarios. Of course there’s some story connection between them.
During missions you can upgrade your mecha-suit. You can find new weapons that you can equip. For some equipments you must archieve a higher level. For every killed enemy you gain a few XP points, so there’s something like a very simple RPG element too.
And that’s pretty much everything. Maybe you can think that it’s nothing special, but trust me and try this one. It has something, that doesn’t let you go for hours. And if you really need to stop for a while, you can save your game and start from the mission where you stopped.
This post is unique in the way, that will cover my own game and I will write more about ideas behind the game than game itself.
At the beginning I have idea to write my own game in Flash, but I cannot find artist and I must freeze my first project near before release. I do not give it up and start work on another small game with abstract graphic (because I cannot create standard graphical assets) and I also want to create something very, very simple in term of game mechanics. Result of this though is The Cottage.
Game is based on old “in, out” game mechanics. You need to count how many people is in small cottage. And people just coming from the left to right and enter/escape from this house. I also decide to leave all of the bonus stuff like music, sounds or anything else. Just because I do not like listening music during gameplay of games.
I was surprised how many time is needed to create small game: just 3 hours of work on core game and another 3 hours for polishing. I released upload this game to the Newgrounds and Kongregate and, as I except, game is not going very well in fact of rating from anonymous players. On the other side, there were some nice player reviews from players of target audience and they like it’s simplicity.
I do not want to bore you with some egocentric words, than just try this game and I hope that you will enjoy it for couple of minutes. I am looking forward to your feedback here in the comments or in our forums created for this game.
Recently I’ve been thinking that it’s been a while since I’ve played some really good that made me laught. I can’t help myself, but there are less and less funny games. And if there are some, there are adventures. I’m almost sure, that Sam & Max must be funny as hell.
But today I found a really awsome RPG that made me laught with almost everything. It has fantastic dialogues, it looks funny and even a story itself is funny. Oh yeah, it’s a new Penny arcade game with a terribly long name On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness. I’ve never been fan ot this comic, but I’ll have to start watching it more carefully.
The story takes place in the year 1922 in a universe of New Arcadia (nothing to do with Dreamfall i suppose). In the beginning you can make your own character and of course you can choose how would you like to look. I was really amazed when I found out, that your 3D character can be also seen in 2D animation that shows you some important parts of the story, nice job boys.
So you make a hero and what now. I think that I can say with no spoiling, that in the beginning your hero’s house is crashed by a huge robot. And that’s what story is about. You try to find that robot and kick his ass. By and by you’ll find some companions. Not only human but for an example your first fellow companion will be a lazy cat. Don’t ask me what her attack is or how you’ll make you to join you but believe me - it’ll make you at least smile you.
So this game is really refreshing for me. I didn’t finish it yet (found it yesterday), but because of it’s epizodic design, I think we’ve got a nice opponent for Sam and Max. At least I hope it won’t end just like for example Sin…it would be really pitty.
And now something completely different. I usually do not write a lot about more complex game then some simple puzzle, but I am also big fan of RPG’s (well, I do not play any for about 100 years) and this game was something like time machine for me.
This game is dungeon and your quest is to explore the long cave and win some battles (or lost it, but this is not a big issue) and hopefully find some treasures. Interface of this game is little bit messy and I was continuously clicking to “Menu” button instead of “Return” button, you will also fight with flood of items and mess in your inventory.
There are two main “screens”: there is map and you are exploring the level here and if you find some enemies you will fight them and the game transforms to second mode, where you battle the enemies (see the screenshot). Game use turn based combat system and each time you can select between the attacks of yours party members. There is one normal attack and up to 6 special attacks (spells, moves…) which costs you some spell points. It is simple and intuitive.
Level system is very simply: there is no experience points nor perks, you just gain new level after you pass the stairways to the next level. You should pick new skills (mostly spells and abilities) and add some points to statistics. Nothing special, but good enough for this game.
I do not want to be offensive to this game, it is good game and very addictive (hell, I do not finish my daily tasks because I am playing it few hours) but there is also a big room to improvements. It is not Baldurs Gate or Migh and Magic, but it is still good game for lazy evening (or two).
Do you like biology? Well I’m not a big fan either, but this game is quite interesting for me. And what does it have to do with biology? You must control small cells to conquest cells of an enemy. And just like in a real world, cells can divide itself.
And how can you use this cell division? Of course for the conquest. It’s the only task in this game. There are three types of cells - gray, green and red ones. Naturally you’re the green one, gray ones are neutral and your enemy is red. Every cell has a number on itself that shows its power. By division you can “shoot” a half of your power at an enemy or neutral cell to conquest it. And if your attack is strong enough, the cell is yours and you can use it for other conquests. Of course you must pay attention not to be defeatet while sending all your power at an enemy.
And that’s all:o) Gameplay is quite fast, even if cells can move quite slow, because if there are eight or more cells you must think really fast. If you like strategy games, try this one, for me it’s better than all the tower defense games.
I like all the weird stuff like Steampunk computer or Piss screen. I found another great gadget today. It is home made giant NES controller in size of coffee table (and if you do not play on the console you can use it for this purpose).
